Buying the best filter coffee – it’s easy.

The filter coffee. No brewing method is more popular and we have all had a more or less delicious cup poured by grandma. But filter coffee can do much more. All filter coffees that you can buy from us are specialty coffees. This means that our selected roasters have their coffees graded by independent experts, also known as Q or R graders. It is tasted in a very special way in order to influence the taste of the bean as little as possible. Simply put: During “cupping” the ground coffee in the cup is poured with hot water and then tasted with a special spoon. Only if the beans achieve a score of over 80 on a scale of 0 to 100 can a coffee be called specialty coffee. What does it take to get such a high score? Cultivation, harvesting, preparation and roasting must be done with great attention to detail. Only then can coffee develop all its aromas. Do you want to buy the best filter coffee? Quite simple – because they are just a click away.

How your coffee beans become filter coffee.

Sweet, fruity, notes of orange – have you found exactly the coffee that suits you? Then all you have to do is brew the coffee beans to make really good filter coffee. To do this, you have to keep a few things in mind. Grinding level, water, brewing time and of course the method itself. All of these factors influence how your coffee ultimately tastes. Here are the most common methods for your filter coffee.

French press

It is also affectionately referred to as a cafetière and is one of the most often underestimated tools for preparing really good specialty coffee. The best? Many of us already have them at home. Unlike most filter methods, the water here does not run from top to bottom through a coffee bed. Instead, we fill the ground coffee in the French press with hot water and then, in the most common method, press it down with a round filter. Since the coffee is in contact with the water throughout the entire extraction time, the beans for the French press are ground a little coarser than with other filter methods. Your water should be around 95° Celsius for the French press and the extraction takes around 4:30 minutes.

Pour over

Chemex, Hario, Kalita – there are many different companies, but the principle is similar. The ground coffee is placed in a conical container, water is added and the liquid runs through a filter into a container below. Of course it's not quite that simple. Each different method extracts the flavors from your coffee slightly differently. Some take a little longer, some go faster. Some filters are made of paper, some are made of metal, sometimes you even use a cloth. The advantages of metal and cloth are obvious, they are reusable. However, larger particles and oils also end up in the cup. Here, of course, the taste decides again, because it is precisely these properties that produce a cup of coffee with a little more body.

Filter coffee machine

Grandma's coffee machine reloaded? The filter machine has also developed somewhat over the years. An example here would be the so-called Moccamaster. Do you value reproducible results and less manual work? Then this brewing method is the right choice for you. Apart from the grinding level and the coffee you pour in, not much can actually be changed here. A little tip: with this and actually all other methods, the water you use should not be underestimated.

It's best to use filtered water here. Do you want to go one step further? Then there are additives like those from Third Wave Water that add exactly the right minerals to your water.

Aeropress

A relatively new method is the Aero Press. This great gadget was invented by Alan Adler in 2005. What makes the Aero Press special? Very easy. It's cheap, sturdy, easy to transport and clean... oh yeah, it also makes excellent coffee. The Aero Press is also very versatile. There are many different methods to brew coffee with it. The simplest one involves adding coffee and water to the brewing chamber. After about two minutes, use the second part of the Aero Press, which fits exactly into the brewing chamber, to press the coffee through a sieve with a small paper filter at the bottom. Which coffee beans do you need for this filter coffee? That's entirely up to you. Many people also use slightly darker roasts in the Aero Press due to the shorter brewing time. There are no limits to your creativity here.
