3-step frappe recipe

Shake it real cold: a 3-step frappe recipe for sweet summer days

Summer is finally back and now it's beach, brew and BBQ!
Here you can find a recipe for the right caffeine kick on hot days! Prepared in just a few minutes and three simple steps, it will have you ready for long summer nights. The recipe is designed for a frappe. If you want more, just adjust the amount to the number of friends!

FUN FACT : The frappe is often referred to as the Greek-style frappe because the popular cold drink was first shaken in Greece. Its roots go back to 1957, when Dimitrios Vakondios dared to experiment in Greece out of need for hot water. He quickly decided to create an iced instant coffee instead of hot. Instant coffee is generally very popular and widespread in Greece. He mixed instant coffee powder with cold water and a pinch of sugar and shook all the ingredients vigorously and thoroughly along with ice cubes. The creation quickly won the hearts of Vakondios' colleagues and quickly gained notoriety.

Step 1: Preparing your ingredients.

Grab all the ingredients you need for the frappe recipe: a shaker (a mixer or hand milk frother is also optional), 1 teaspoon of instant coffee, 1 teaspoon of sugar, approx. 100-150ml cup of cold water, ice cubes and optionally one little milk.

Step 2: Shake the coffee thoroughly.

Take a frother, add the instant coffee, sugar, some of the ice cubes and cold water. Mix everything vigorously for 30 seconds. If you are using a mixer or milk frother, mix until you get a thick head of foam.

Step 3: Put ice cubes in the glass, pour in and enjoy!

We want to enjoy our frappe recipe “on the rocks”, that is, with ice cubes. To do this, put the remaining ice cubes in a tall glass. Now slowly pour the frothy coffee frappe over the ice cubes into the glass. Finally, depending on your taste, you can also add cow's or plant milk to make your frappe particularly creamy. Yummy!

FAQ Preparation Frappe

frequently asked Questions

Can I use ground coffee instead of instant coffee?

Yes, you can also use ground coffee, but you will need a French press or other device to filter the coffee. However, instant coffee is ideal because it dissolves quickly and allows you to enjoy your coffee straight away.

Can I adjust the amount of sugar?

Absolutely! The amount of sugar given is only a guideline. You can adjust the amount according to your personal taste.

What is the difference between a Greek Frappé and a Frappuccino?

A Greek Frappé and a Frappuccino are both cold, sweet coffee drinks, but they differ in their preparation and ingredients. A Greek Frappé is made with instant coffee, sugar, water and optionally milk. It is shaken until a thick head is formed and served over ice.

A Frappuccino is a protected brand name, especially known from the Starbucks chain. It is based on cooled espresso, milk, ice and various flavors or syrups. It is usually mixed rather than shaken and garnished with cream or other toppings.

Can I make Frappé with plant-based milk?

Yes, you can also prepare the Frappé with plant-based milk or without milk at all. The plant-based milk also gives the drink a delicious, creamy note. If you don't like milk or want to avoid it, you can simply leave it out and enjoy the frappe without milk.

How long does the frappe last in the fridge?

The Frappé should be enjoyed immediately after preparation for a truly delicious taste experience. However, if you have leftovers, you can store them in the refrigerator and consume them within 1-2 days. However, the shaken foam will dissolve over time.

Can I customize the Frappé according to my preferences?

In any case! The Greek Style Coffee Frappé is a versatile coffee base that you can customize however you like. You can add different syrups, use whipped cream or ice cream as a topping, or experiment with spices like cinnamon or vanilla. Let your creativity run wild and create your individual Frappé enjoyment.
