Heilandt Kaffeerösterei: Good coffee is actually not a matter of taste.

Heilandt's story begins with four friends and – like many other things in life – with a good cup of coffee. All four had worked with coffee in very different ways, were fanatical coffee fans and discussed why so few manufacturers actually manage to produce really good coffee. A few sips later, the “crazy” idea was born to open a roasting company and turn one's own claim into coffee. Today, lovers of the delicious drink can stock up on first-class, directly traded roasted coffee in two Heilandt Cafés and the roastery in Cologne. Heilandt Kaffeemanufaktur placed the highest value on transparency right from the start and is therefore part of The Pledge, the coffee industry's transparency code. In addition, with every sip, Heilandt customers can support the unique Orangutan Coffee Project, whose initiative helps preserve the rainforest on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Good coffee!

  • What makes your products special?

    The taste. There is always something new. In every harvest, in every import – in every first roasting. Of course, we work transparently in sourcing and on an equal footing with the farms. But that should be normal for specialty roasters by now. But when it comes to taste, there is something for everyone. A challenge, a satisfaction or a first leap into a completely new world of coffee tastes.

  • What's the craziest thing you've ever done for coffee?

    Of course everyone sees this differently. For fellow travelers, it's crazy that someone takes coffee, a grinder, filters and, above all, a scale with them on vacation. But this is completely normal for you. What's really crazy is when a farmer takes 2 bags of coffee to the dumping site on a donkey for 10 hours - which is normal for him. So what's crazy - we really enjoy going to work - also kind of crazy.

  • Which coffee are you particularly proud of?

    Espresso 1. Not because it's that crazy, but because it's the blend that we first created 12 years ago in a down jacket without heating. Back then, at the very beginning, we were really happy, but we never expected that 12 years later it would still be in our range and that it would become our evergreen.
