Firstcrack: “The best coffees are not created by chance, but through perfectly executed processes and passion”

Founded in 2010 as a small delicatessen with its own roastery, the concept has revolved around itself over the years until at some point everything except the roastery and our patisserie was thrown out again. Our entire thinking and approach to the topic of coffee changed completely with our first visit to a coffee farm and the realization of the incredible effort that goes into good coffee. Today we import most of our coffee directly from the farmers. Our understanding of the coffee trade begins with us seeing coffee farmers as experts and partners on an equal footing, treating them with the utmost respect and definitely with a handshake on site on their farm. We do not discuss their prices with our partners - if we love their coffee, we are happy to pay the price the producer expects for their work for their efforts in planting, harvesting and processing exceptional coffees and the clear focus on quality and sustainability . Our work is at the end of the long production chain and our goal is to roast perfectly balanced coffees with the unique characters of the respective regions of origin as a counterpart to large-scale industrial producers. By the way, we still get a quota every year from the farm in Myanmar that changed our coffee world so lastingly back then.

  • What makes your products so special?

The nerdy passion with which everyone involved, from the farm in the country of origin to the colleagues at the roaster, approach the topic. The best coffees are not created purely by chance, but rather through perfectly executed processes and a lot of passion. But anyway, every great coffee on the shelf that not every other colleague has is always something very special.

  • What's the craziest thing you've ever done for coffee?

At the other end of the world, at 30 degrees Celsius, swinging for hours at walking pace on roads that are definitely not roads to some remote farm because there is supposed to be really great coffee there is always nice, but also completely crazy.

  • Which coffee are you particularly proud of?

To our Myanmar coffees. We are always happy when we manage to get coffee from our friends and partners there again. The humanitarian situation in the country has been catastrophic since the military coup in 2021 and being able to at least financially support the farmers, pickers and their families is particularly important to us.
