To find the perfect coffee for your taste – buy a coffee set

You know our mission. She is simple. We want you to drink better coffee at home. Why? Very easy. We believe that good coffee is much more than just a little caffeine boost in the morning.

The only problem – finding and buying great coffee is not that easy. That's why we look for the best specialty coffee roasters throughout Europe and bring them to your home. We pay attention to every step, from the cultivation and type of coffee to the roasting and the taste experience in the cup. All this just for the perfect cup of coffee? Not quite. Because every pack sold is also a voice for fair trade, better working conditions for coffee producers and more transparency.

Order exactly the coffee that suits you.

Would you like to enter the world of specialty coffee? In order to find exactly the coffee that suits you and tastes good, we have put together a selected selection of coffee sets for you. There's something for everyone here. This makes it easy to find out what you like and test different flavor profiles.

Whether spicy & chocolaty or floral, with a refreshing effervescence - it doesn't matter how you like your coffee. But what actually defines the taste of coffee? In order to order the perfect coffee for your taste and preferred method of preparation, you should understand how the type of coffee, growing region, preparation and roasting process tease out different flavors from the bean.

What are the different types of coffee?

The two main varieties are Arabica and Robusta. Just as you know from wine, there are subtle differences here too. You can taste and try them out particularly well in our coffee sets.

But now let’s get to the basics. Arabica and Robusta differ in many areas. For example, they grow at different heights. Robusta already grows just above sea level. Arabica requires slightly higher altitudes here. The Arabica plant can even grow at around 2100 meters. The higher the plants are grown, the more complex the flavor is often. This is because they grow more slowly and the coffee cherries have more time to develop their aroma. However, the height also makes growing conditions more difficult. The Arabica plant is also more susceptible to disease. Robusta is, as the name suggests, a little more resilient.

Of course, the two varieties differ not only in terms of cultivation. The beans also have some differences in terms of appearance and taste. The Arabica bean is oval and has a curved notch, while Robusta is slightly round and straight notched. When it comes to buying the right coffee beans, the most important thing is of course the taste.

In most cases, Arabica has a more complex taste. Here you will often also find sweet, fruity aromas. Robusta often tastes a bit straighter. Nutty and chocolatey notes often dominate here. Bonus: Robusta ensures slightly thicker crema. A little Robusta in the mix is often recommended, especially for fans of classic espresso notes.

The roasting – what are the differences?

Now that the beans have been prepared, it’s time to roast them. To buy the right coffee beans, you should know how different roasts affect the taste. Here it goes from light to dark.

The darker your coffee was roasted, the more the classic roasted aromas predominate. Here you often taste aromas of nuts or bitter chocolate. If it's a little too dark, a little bit of burnt tire can get mixed in. Industrial roasts in particular are often roasted very dark to compensate for poor bean quality. Finding the right balance is the be-all and end-all here.

But now to the more important topic – which coffee beans should you buy? That depends on 2 things. Firstly, how do you prepare your coffee? Secondly, what do you personally like best? If you prepare your coffee using a hand filter or filter machine, you should choose lighter roasts. The flavors really shine here. Dark roasts taste more bitter than filter coffee. This is due to the slow extraction. If you use an espresso machine, darker roasts work a little better. Light roasts quickly taste sour when used as espresso.

Now we come to the crux of the matter. Some coffee fans love slightly fruity, lighter coffees than espresso. Which coffee beans you should buy primarily depends on your preferences.

If you buy a coffee set, you can try out different degrees of roasting.

So just try it out a bit and find out what you like!

Single origin or blend?

When it comes to taste, the mixture is also crucial. In addition to single-origin coffees, roasters also mix different coffees into a so-called blend. The roasting masters use great sensitivity to select coffees that complement each other perfectly. For a well-rounded taste experience, different types of Arabica or Arabica and Robusta are mixed here.

When it comes to blends, it is important that you know where they come from. Avoid coffees that advertise with phrases like “The best coffees from South America.”
