Public Coffee Roasters: Coffee is art only without cutting off your ears

We are Public Coffee Roasters – a young coffee roasting company in Hamburg. We look for specialty coffees from the best coffee farms in the world, roast, process and distribute the gently roasted coffee. It all started from our houseboat, which is anchored on the shining Elbe in the middle of Hamburg. We have now expanded and are roasting together with Hanseatic Coffee Roasters in our new co-roastery in Rahlstedt. We want to make the art of making coffee accessible to everyone. Smell. Taste good. Feel. Coffee for all senses. “Public” stands, on the one hand, for the public interest that we want to arouse in specialty coffee and its versatility, and, on the other hand, for the transparency of our products and services. We see coffee preparation as a craft and coffee as a multifaceted quality product. We attach great importance to sustainability, know-how and fresh, gentle and individual roasting. Because only those who know everything about the origin and processing of coffee can exploit the maximum flavor potential of a bean. “Quality with every step of the process” is our credo - this not only applies to the processing of our coffees, but also to the relationship with our employees, Coffee farmers and customers.

  • What makes your products special?

We offer roasted specialty coffees from special flavors to more classic blends. This makes the product itself a little more accessible to consumers who are slowly getting into the enjoyment of specialty coffee. In addition, we can boast of an incredibly fine palate. Our roasting master Sandra really brings out everything that the different coffees have to offer.

  • What's the craziest thing you've ever done for coffee?

Before we moved to the large roastery in the middle of last year, we roasted, packaged, picked and delivered up to 5 tons of coffee in our small roastery on the Elbe. That means we drove 5 tons of green coffee over a very small bridge with a very small car, in order to then drive, deliver or ship a little less than 5 tons of roasted coffee over the very small bridge with a very small car :D That was pretty crazy.

  • Which coffee are you particularly proud of?

We currently have a washed Kenyan in our range that Argin chose in Kenya and met the farmer there. It comes into the cup with aromas of blackcurrant, lime and caramel sweetness. Super tasty and exciting.
